Lion Raw has been listening to Dancehall since the age of 5 - his sister was part of the 'Riverside Posse', and was pumping ragga at home. He began beat-boxing and rapping to himself, his family and anyone who'd listen. Aged 11 he found his early dancehall voice but drawing influences from DnB, Jungle, NWA, Eazy E and Dr Dre with Cutty Ranks, General Degree and Gregory Isaacs still the main men. 'Bust the Mic' -open-mic challenges - at Cardiff's Grassroots, MC-ing stints for DJ T-Bone and freestyling on the pirate radio station 'Bass FM' put him firmly on the scene, only for personal issues to stop him at the age of 18. At 23, and inspired by dancehall culture and singers like Sizzla, Anthony B and Capleton, he hooked up with Pro-Juice and joined the K-Diff Syndicate in 2004. Lion Raw featured on the title track of the PRS Unsigned Award CD, 'Backstabber', distributed across Fopp stores in early 2005.
